The Art Party Conference

The LAN is planning to attend The Art Party Conference in Scarborough in November.
Artist Becky Fawcett is providing transport, and so far 3 of us will be attending.

Viking Biking Expedition and The Lincoln Simulacrum

The LAN now has artist Becky Fawcett joining us on the committee, and we're busy organising The Lincoln Simulacrum installation to coincide with Frequency Festival 2013. 

We're not funded by Frequency, and we're not curating this for Frequency for free, this is independent artist-led exhibition of digital artwork that should be fully funded and included as part of Frequency.

For "The Birds" workshop we made cardboard bird wings and beaks for audiences and participants of The Lincoln Simulacrum, and to create a flock of birds for the culmination of The Viking Biking Expedition as part of this.

We've also been incredibly busy setting up and organising Viking Biking Expeditions, every Sunday. These are social artist-led cycle rides with an arty twist, and are gaining in popularity.

New Lincoln hire bikes at the train station for those without a bike

These Lincolnshire cow sculptures can be found along the Water Railway route, where the route follows The Viking Way from Ferry Road to Fiskerton.
They were given some "straw" made of rusty iron nails as a piece of guerilla art interaction. Good farming practice to keep your cows fed.

LAN artists invite the general public to join us for Viking Biking Expedition along the Viking Way in Lincolnshire, every Sunday until 3rd Nov 2013. 

Committee changes

We were struggling to seek another artist to join the LAN committee, and now it seems that Fiona Hodges can no longer be an active part of the committee due to ill health. 
Her input and support has been invaluable over the past few weeks, and now we're seeking two artists to support the LAN. In the mean time, after a discussion with the arts council, I will be making an application to the Arts Council for funding for the Outer Trial Bank project, and running the project by myself for the LAN.

Revival anniversary events

Unfortunately, Fiona Hodges is no longer able to take an active part in the LAN committee planning, due to ill health, so for now, the LAN can't work without fellow artists on the committee. Therefore, this is a call for local Lincoln artists to take part in organising LAN events and become part of the LAN committee!

The Outer Trial Bank ACE grant proposal was sent as an individual application, but wasn't successful with funding. This wasn't going to be a problem, as it's a shame not to make use of the space, however, since then, I too have suffered some personal matters that mean that the project may be far less ambitious than first hoped.

Helen and Sue have been taking part in regular social cycle rides, and these are hoped to become a part of LAN art projects.

We hope to finally work regularly in Norman St. on Fridays for various projects.

The LAN has started to receive more interest again - plans for the Christmas Market are coming together - if you're an artist wishing to have a stall, please get in touch!

The first event we will be working on will be for the Revival anniversary, which is on Friday 20th September, and we hope to be in Norman St. to make cardboard bird wings for the Outer Trial Bank project, and we also have a bike that will be pimped up as a sculptural project to be displayed as part of the Outer Trial Bank, but also for LAN / Apparatjik bike rides along the Viking Way!

There will be an LAN bike ride, starting at Norman St. / Revival cafe, via the Water Railway route, along part of the Viking Way to Five Mile Bridge, returning via Washingborough to South Park, and back up the Viking Way via Sincil Bank to finish at Norman St. / Revival. Times and day tbc, as Sunday would be the best day, but Revival are having a geocaching event from 10.00a.m. to 4.00p.m. 

You can bring your own bike to ride, or hire one from the train station opposite.
Bring cardboard to make bird wings to create a flock of cyclists, and if you have shiny stuff / disco lights to pimp the LAN Apparatjik bike, please bring along!

LAN : LAB

All seems a bit quiet here, but we've been busy networking and visiting the UoL degree shows at the beginning of June, along with planning and organising. We had initially intended to have an LAN event mid-June, but that will now be mid July, as Fiona and I have been busy meeting with the council to discuss potential community projects for which there may be funding available for us to do in Bracebridge.

Last Friday was a site visit around the old gasworks, and the area to look at sites for these. 

We've also been putting together an Arts Council grant application, and there's a meeting to discuss this at the beginning of July.

We're pleased to have received the first submission for the Outer Trial Bank project, having contacted as many graduates of the UoL degree shows as possible. 

In other news, we received an inquiry about the Christmas Market for this year. If there's enough interest, it will definitely be worth doing that again - it was a lot of fun last year, and we hope it'll be better this year!

On Thursday 2nd May, I went to Magne Furuholmen's "Norwegian Wood" exhibition, for the interest of my own art practice, but also with the intention of asking Apparatjik if they had time in their schedule to come to Lincoln.
I had the pleasure of chatting to Magne A himself, and Guy A, lamenting that I wasn't going to Copenhagen for Apparatjik's gig. The conversation gave many ideas for the Apparatjik project. Guy said he wasn't going either. Due to commitments with Coldplay, Guy doesn't usually perform with Apparatjik. It's usually a friend of Jonas' from Blue Foundation that looks a lot like Guy. A fake Guy! Then Magne told us that he was going, but then added that no one would really notice if it was just some bloke in a mask. 

At this stage, we don't need Apparatjik to come to Lincoln to perform in the LAN Light Space Modulator, we just need an Apparatjik simulacra.

This will be referred to as "The Lincoln Simulacrum". 

No one in Lincoln knows what Apparatjik is, so they won't notice if it's just four blokes in a mask.
